Pros and Cons of Townhomes
Pros and Cons of Townhomes
Some people say that there is no real way of telling if a townhome unit is truly the kind of home you want for yourself. So we decided that it is best that we give out the basic facts about living in a townhome: what's so good about such an arrangement, and which parts of it you may not like.
Let's begin with the merits. For one thing, a townhome unit is much easier to afford than a full-blown single family home without taking away the “family” feel of the living space. For another, some townhome units may include in its package a small yard out front or out back, where you can do some minor gardening if you so wish. Living in a townhome also means that you may have access to some private community amenity, and that you do not have to shoulder the entire burden of roof and exterior maintenance.
The downside to living in a townhome, however, would have to be dealing with the noise of the next-door neighbors. While the walls aren't exactly thin, they still don't have the benefit of ample space between units – you will occasionally hear your neighbors, especially if they're the type who make noise (like musicians). Another problem would be the fact that some townhome pairs may require you to share a stairwell with your immediate neighbor. All in all, there is a little less privacy in a townhome compared to an actual home or an apartment.
If you can live with the cons and are happy with the pros, then a townhome is the home for you.
